First stop was an unusual one .... the Kauai Hindu Monastery.... so glad we made the time for it! It was a really cool place.... the bros getting into the groove of being monks...
This was the founder of the Monastery...
Banyan tree worship area... it was an amazing maze of roots and branches...
The Kadavul Hindu Temple is the main worship area and if you walk on the path to it, you must remove your shoes... and no pictures inside the temple at all.
And this orange cat shows up every time this certain monk is in the temple.
And of course roosters...
An amazing view of the Monastery property.
This is the Iraivan Temple...which took over 33 years to complete where Granite was hand carved in India and shipped over to be assembled in Kauai. It was not part of the open area and only accessible by free walking tours on specific times....sadly...we were not able to do the tour..
Maybe another time...
This poor little guys resting place..we thought he was alive...but he was dead...we think someone found him and felt this was the perfect final resting place... and I think it was..
Now this is a common sight here on the island....it's like nobody can draw a straight line!
Now off to Waimea viewpoint...up.. up and up...3500 feet up... makes for a beautiful view.
Amazing views! Several of the state park access points were $10 parking and then $5 per person...we contemplated it and thought ...nope... and if we didn't just drive a short distance and accessed a free view....
And saving the best for last.... and almost a 2 hour drive....
Ocean fog....didn't see a darn thing!!!! Luckily we didn't pay the $10 parking fee and $5 per person on this one...
But this is what we would have seen...
Back down we go to Kekaha...we found where the poorer islanders live. Very modest homes, no tourists, just people getting by.
Glass Beach was on our radar which if you didn't have it on GPS you might never see it.
A few locals live here, collecting beach treasurers and offering them up for donations. They rake the beach and keep it clean!
They had the area roped off for this seal to chilax....we actually thought he was dead. He was so still and covered in green algae.... but he surprised us all!
Next stop was Spouting Horn near Poipu on the south side of the island. This area is the busiest and most touristy of anywhere else we saw on the Island.
And then this happened...15 turtles!
