March 10 - Afternoon whale watching

Awoke to another sunny morning...I appreciate every one of them..... and as in all vacations....the other countdown must always start.... the countdown to going home.... and seeing our Lu.

We had a lazier start to the day...little pool time before heading off on our whalewatching tour. We are heading up island for about 3 hours.

Beautiful boat holding only 49 passengers so all the seats are great and all padded! A nice way to travel.

It was not long before we saw a baby Humpback whale and her momma. I decided only to try to get one or two pics and then just enjoy the ride as the prospect of trying to get a good pic with a phone on the rolling ocean is pointless.

We saw several whales in the next hour, which was pretty cool, more calm activity from them.

They did put the audio line down and we got to listen to them for a while! That was cool.

The entire trip the crew gave us lots of facts and stories about the whales.

Interesting fact....it's only the males that chatter and sing to each other, figuring out who is who, where they are, maybe chattering to the females.... but apparently the chatter does not actually entice the females... they give it no matter, it's a here nor there...background noise to be ignored...

Then the best happened! We saw the spinner dolphins in the distance and after the whale we were watching disappeared several schools of spinner dolphins appeared! About 150 in all!

They jumped, twisted, flew, dove and swam alongside the boat for over 15-20 minutes on their way out to sea for their nightly feast! Oh my gosh, they are my favourite!

I did not get my own pics as I was just too excited watching them but these pics are so similar to what we saw!

They are just the happiest things ever!

And then the best thing happened. One of the crew asked if anyone from the top floor wanted to lay on the front of the boat to watch them. She had some of the people move who had been in the spot earlier and I got to lay on the front and watch them right infront of the boat! AMAZING!!!  I might have even cried a little I was so excited!

This is what I saw for about 5 minutes! I could almost touch them they were so close! Highlight of this trip for me!

This obviously was not me but this is where I got to lay
Back to shore after about 3 hours, great trip!

Another sunset...

Lots of tidepools here to check out

Dinner and drinks in Kailua Kona to end our day.

Love my white lights!

Aloha
