March 3 - Shark beach and Hula

It's a beautiful clear day, great morning for a snorkel at Kahaluu Beach....aka Shark Beach....same place that closed yesterday due to a Shark sighting.

The snorkel beach is open, no Shark today.

You don't have to go far into the water before you are surrounded by sooo many fish. We do not have a water camera but it's like swimming in a tropical fish tank. This video is like what we saw today! Amazing!

These are pics other people took but they are truly what we saw!
...... then about 30 minutes into our snorkel we were all in the same area about half way out in the reef... and an ear piercing siren starts blaring!!!!

All I can think of is the shark sighting yesterday and I am GONE!!! I am swimming so fast for shore that Joe said he saw a wake behind me! Like I was pulling a water skier!!! My legs and toes cramped so bad from kicking so hard I just used my arms to pull myself to shore. Thankfully I actually know how to swim now! When I got to the shallow part I stood up and looked for the others and they were not far from where I left them!

And the LOUD SIREN was a tsunami test that they do once a month here....but they don't tell you it's a warning!!!

We snorkeled a bit more after the scare, my legs and toes still cramping. Back on shore we were laughing about it by the Lifeguard station and the lifeguard pipes up and says....Oh yeah....we watched that!!! OMG too funny!

Off to the Honokohau Harbour.

There were lots of guys fishing down there... and this odd looking man...

Stopped at Turtle Cove for a stroll and a picnic.

And of course we saw a turtle.

I love the Hawaii graffiti... they take the dead Coral which is bright white and use that.

This walkway is part of a resort golf course.

My attempt at contributing to the inukshuk..

Next stop, the Hilton at Waikoloa. Pretty high end resort with an ocean pool with fish and turtles and sandy beach .

They even have a dolphin pool in the resort and you can pay to hang out with them.... for a fee of course!

There are several  of these Granite statues scattered around the resort.

Our final destination of the day was to Queen's Marketplace for a free Hula show but with a little time to kill....Happy Hour! Yay. Great margarittas, lasagne rolls and meatball appies! Yum yum

As we backed out of the Luaui, I was able to find a free Hula show of local dancers doing it for the love of it... you could feel the pride in their performances.  One dancer was 89 years old and it would be hard to pick her out!

Hip action

Aloha!
